Buckingham Palace

While admittedly you may not be able to sit down with the Royals, the corgis and the country's finest china, you can have a nose around the magnificent 19 State Rooms, commissioned by George IV in 1825 and where some of the most stunning treasures from the Royal Collection are housed.

See where the Royal Family meet and greet guests on State, ceremonial and official occasions, including the Throne Room and the White Drawing Room, the Picture Gallery, the Grand Staircase and the palatial Ballroom.

After you've explored the substantial State Rooms, head into the gardens which are open to the public throughout daylight hours in the summer. There are so many things to do and see, it's a good idea to book a Garden Highlights tour to make the most of your visit.

Strolling around the 16-hectares will help you work up an appetite, so luckily you can tuck into some refreshments in The Garden Cafe, which offers beautiful views across the Palace lawns.

Days out at Buckingham Palace are all the more memorable by taking the chance to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony at 11am every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday throughout the summer.
