About Locke Boarding House Museum

Locke Boarding House Museum, the 1909 Jack Ross Boardinghouse in Walnut Grove, preserves the early history of this Sacramento Delta town. Visitors explore the restored building during Friday through Sunday hours, learning about the migrant agricultural workers and community life that shaped Locke before its formal founding in 1915. General admission is free. The museum operates as a historical and cultural site within California State Parks, offering access to the architecture and artifacts of this significant structure. Fourth graders and their families receive free entry through California's 4th Grade Pass, which provides access to fifty-four select state parks throughout the state. The boarding house welcomes day-use visitors interested in regional history and heritage. Located in Walnut Grove, the museum is managed in partnership with the Locke Foundation and sits within the larger Delta Meadows property currently undergoing general planning and classification by California State Parks.
