Battery Point Lighthouse, also known as Crescent City Light Station, sits at the foot of Lighthouse Way in Crescent City and functions as an active lighthouse serving navigation purposes. Public tours allow visitors to climb into the light tower and explore the personal quarters of lighthouse keepers and their families, viewing original furniture and artifacts spanning more than a century. The museum displays maritime artifacts, historical photographs, and documents chronicling the lighthouse's long history. Exhibits recount stories of keepers who tended the light and their experiences, including an account of keepers stranded during a tsunami who witnessed destruction on the mainland. The site also features Native American legends associated with the island and local ghost stories. Access to the lighthouse and island is possible only at low tide, requiring visitors to cross approximately two hundred feet from shore. The crossing presents hazards including sneaker waves, so extreme caution is necessary. Visitors should protect the natural wildlife and plant life on the island during their visit.
