Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park is the restored 1868 home of John Bidwell, founder of Chico, California. The Visitor Center opens Fridays and Saturdays, where visitors browse historical displays and learn about the mansion's restoration process. The General's Store stocks local and regional products, including California Bear Hug items, tea from local maker Lagom Infusions, and women's suffrage-themed merchandise. The park interprets the life and times of John Bidwell and the mansion's significance to Chico's history. Visitors can view the brick masonry shell and learn about the mansion's architectural features through displays and educational programs. The Bidwell Mansion Association, a community-based nonprofit since 1956, manages preservation and interpretation activities. The park suits history enthusiasts and those interested in California's pioneer era and local heritage.
