Carmel Heritage Society operates a museum and historic house tours from the First Murphy House, the 1902 residence built by Michael J. Murphy at Sixth Avenue and Lincoln Street in Carmel-By-The-Sea. Visitors explore architectural and cultural heritage through guided tours of featured homes throughout the town, receiving a packet that serves as ticket, map, and house descriptions combined. The organization hosts an annual Home and Inns Tour showcasing storybook cottages, Frank Lloyd Wright designs, architectural gems, and carefully preserved residences that reflect Carmel's tradition of attracting artists, writers, and architects since the early 1900s. Members gain access to free walking tours of Carmel and exclusive tours of the famous Hansel and Gretel Houses. The society operates with volunteer docents who guide visitors from around the world.
