About Strathearn Historical Park

Strathearn Historical Park is a 6.5-acre site in Simi Valley dedicated to preserving the region's pioneer heritage. Visitors tour restored historic buildings including the Strathearn family's Victorian farmhouse, built in 1892 and added to an original adobe structure, where rancher Robert P. Strathearn and his wife Mary Lamb raised seven children beginning in the 1880s. The park also houses the last two remaining Colony Houses—the Haigh/Talley and Printz/Powell homes—shipped to the area in 1888 as part of a health colony experiment by Chicago doctors. A visitors center displays hundreds of photographs, letters, and artifacts documenting early pioneers' lives. The Simi Library, the first purpose-built library in Ventura County, contains school annuals from Simi High and Royal High schools, along with photos of the county's first school bus. Trained docents lead guided tours through the buildings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. The park suits anyone interested in regional history and offers space for walking or jogging among ancient trees.
