Sturgeon's Mill is a steam-powered sawmill founded in 1914 that operated until 1964, then was restored as a working museum. Visitors observe the mill's original equipment, tools, and steam engines demonstrating authentic early 20th-century sawmilling and logging operations. The museum opens four weekends annually for public demonstration runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a crew lunch break from noon to 1 p.m. Historians, gear enthusiasts, steam enthusiasts, and California history students attend these events to experience the industrial revolution era firsthand. The mill serves as an educational anchor for West Sonoma County's late 19th-century industrial history, lifestyle, and work ethics. Teachers and students of all ages are invited to participate in special student-only history days that immerse visitors in the region's past. The restored sawmill functions as an authentic time capsule of logging and milling heritage in Western Sonoma County, located in Sebastopol.
