About Long Island Maritime Museum

The Long Island Maritime Museum preserves and interprets the region's nautical heritage on fourteen acres of waterfront property in West Sayville. Visitors explore galleries and exhibits covering boat building, shipwrecks, and shellfish harvesting, along with the island's role in national maritime history. The museum offers education programs including Story Time by the Bay, Bay Days Summer Camp, and America's Boating Course. Additional classes feature watercolor workshops and tai chi. Events throughout the year include the Seafood Festival, Thursdays On The Bay, Swingtime Big Band performances, and the Halloween Boat Burning. The Sail Priscilla program offers waterborne experiences. Young visitors discover local marine creatures and the connections between maritime and natural histories. Families can spend several hours moving through indoor galleries and outdoor spaces, attending lectures, or participating in hands-on activities. The museum charges admission, with prices published online.
