The Smithtown Historical Society preserves and interprets Long Island's heritage across a twenty-acre site in Smithtown, New York. Visitors wander through historical houses, explore exhibits covering the Colonial through Civil War periods, and meet farm animals on the grounds. The society offers engaging education programs for school-aged children in grades 3-5, with educators in period attire leading hands-on learning experiences aligned with New York State and National standards. The organization, founded in 1955 and expanded through a 1982 merger with the Smithtown Branch Preservation Association, conducts historical research, conserves historic structures and materials, and hosts community fundraising events throughout the year.
