About Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association

Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Greenlawn and Centerport on Long Island. Visitors explore three historical properties: the Suydam House, the John Gardiner Farm, and the restored Lollipop Train. The John Gardiner Farm, originally built in the 1750s and expanded over successive decades, represents a significant local landmark with connections to the area's agricultural heritage and a notable historical crime from 1842. Alexander Gardiner, a prominent entrepreneur, operated a cider mill, sawmill, brickyard, and gristmill on the property and became known as Greenlawn's "Pickle Pioneer" for developing pickle cultivation in the region. The restored Lollipop Train, originally part of a children's zoo and farm attraction from the 1950s and 1960s, operates seasonally at the farm. The association also hosts community events including the Annual Pickle Festival Fundraiser. Membership and volunteer opportunities are available for those interested in supporting local history preservation efforts in Greenlawn, New York.
