About Rye Historical Society
Rye Historical Society is an active organization dedicated to researching, preserving, and celebrating Rye's unique historical heritage. Visitors explore charming permanent exhibition spaces at the Square House Museum, located in Rye, New York, where general admission is free. The organization hosts educational events throughout the year, including the Annual Spring Luncheon, Slightly Spooky Square House, and Season of Giving programs. Walking tours around the Rye area lead visitors through historic neighborhoods and past significant sites. Lectures and workshops connect Rye's past to broader regional and national narratives. The Knapp House Archives, a landmark property dating to around 1670, offers grounds and gardens open seasonally during daylight hours for exploration. Visitors may arrange group and guided tours by calling the museum.
