About Meadow Croft Estate

Meadow Croft Estate is a rare example of Long Island's south shore residential architecture from the 19th century. Visitors tour the summer home of John Ellis Roosevelt, a first cousin of Theodore Roosevelt, which combines a 19th-century farmhouse with an 1891 addition designed by architect Isaac H. Green, Jr. The estate includes a carriage house, auto house, caretaker's cottage, and swimming pool. Inside, the house features reproduction wallpaper and period carpets alongside antique furnishings and original pieces donated by the Roosevelt family, including a grand piano and the dining room table where President Theodore Roosevelt once had lunch. The colonial revival garden has been restored with heirloom plants. Tours are available Saturdays and Sundays, and group tours can be arranged by request. The grounds sit within Sans Souci County Park in Sayville, New York, and the estate was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
