About Quogue Wildlife Refuge

Quogue Wildlife Refuge is a 305-acre nature preserve founded in 1934 where visitors walk seven miles of trails through forests, ponds, bogs, wetlands, and the ecologically rare Dwarf Pines of the Pine Barrens. The main trail accommodates wheelchairs and strollers, and all trails remain open for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. The Outdoor Wildlife Complex houses permanently injured owls, falcons, hawks, and other native New York animals that require human care to survive. Inside the Charles Banks Belt Nature Center, huge windows overlook Old Ice Pond for bird watching. Visitors explore wildlife exhibits, live turtles and snakes, a touch table, a children's room, and an Ice Harvesting Museum with century-old tools from when the property operated as an ice company. The refuge offers guided programs including box turtle storytimes, bat hikes, nature journaling workshops, and seasonal events. General admission is free, and the trails and wildlife complex open daily from sunrise to sunset in Quogue, New York.
