About Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center

The Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center in Uniondale teaches fire safety through interactive exhibits and hands-on activities. Visitors follow a working fire from alarm activation through emergency dispatch to flame suppression at the scene. The museum displays the evolution of firefighting equipment, gear, and apparatus spanning from 1834 to the present day. The collection includes hand-pulled carts, horse-drawn steamers, ladder trucks, pumpers, and tankers, all of which were once used by Nassau County departments. Visitors can operate several trucks, including a 1934 Mack fire engine. The museum also features a Silsby steamer and real horse-drawn fire engines. The experience suits school groups, scout troops, camps, and homeschool organizations, as well as families seeking to learn fire safety fundamentals. A gift shop carries firefighter-themed toys, clothing, and gear. The museum is located on Museum Row next to the Cradle of Aviation Museum and the Long Island Children's Museum.
