About New York Transit Museum

The New York Transit Museum occupies a decommissioned 1936 subway station in Brooklyn, where visitors explore the history and stories of the city's mass transportation system. The museum's platform level spans a full city block and features twenty vintage subway and elevated cars, some dating back to 1904, which visitors can board. Guests can sit behind the wheel of a city bus and walk through a century of turnstile designs. Changing exhibitions including Moving the Millions, On the Streets: New York's Trolleys and Buses, Ticket To Ride, FAREwell MetroCard, Ode to the Orange Seats, and The New York Transit Museum: 50 Years of Stories illuminate the cultural, social, and technological history of transit. The museum also hosts special programs and nostalgia rides on vintage trains. A mobile app featuring a scavenger hunt across the five boroughs and transit trivia games celebrates the museum's 50th anniversary. Located in Brooklyn at Court Street, the museum charges admission and sells tickets online on its website.
