About Three Village Historical Society

The Three Village Historical Society, founded in 1964, operates from a restored farmhouse built around 1800 that once belonged to Ebenezer Bayles and Stephen Swezey. Visitors explore exhibits displayed throughout the two-story Bayles-Swezey House, which occupies 2,500 square feet on 2.2 acres. The society preserves artifacts and documents related to the Three Villages area, including the histories of Old Field, Poquott, the Setaukets, and Stony Brook, from indigenous peoples through the Culper Spy Ring to Stony Brook University's founding. Walking tours guide visitors through the grounds and house interiors, while educational programs examine local heritage. The society maintains archival materials in the Captain Edward R. Rhodes Memorial Collection of Local History, housed at the Emma S. Clark Memorial Library. Through its exhibits, tours, and programs, the society connects visitors to the cultural heritage and people who shaped this region from its earliest habitation to the present day.
