San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum is a non-profit educational organization preserving the railroad history of California's Central Coast. Visitors explore displays and artifacts covering the Pacific Coast Railway, Southern Pacific Railroad, Santa Maria Valley Railroad, Amtrak, and other regional rail lines. The museum's rolling stock collection includes locomotives, freight and passenger cars, cabooses, and a diesel switching locomotive displayed outdoors on tracks. Inside the historic Freighthouse building, exhibits feature railroad signals and maintenance-of-way equipment. The Central Coast Model Railroad, an operating 1200 square-foot HO scale layout, depicts the Southern Pacific and Pacific Coast Railway as they operated from Gaviota to Paso Robles in the early 1900s. A children's play area provides hands-on engagement with railroad themes.
