The Oakmont Historical Society operates a history center and museum where visitors explore collections of photographs, artifacts, and memorabilia documenting the town's past. The museum features rotating exhibits throughout the year and houses a research center with archives including genealogy materials, a photograph collection, and Oakmont and Riverview school records. Volunteers and docents assist patrons with research and answer questions about local history. The center also maintains a library of Oakmont research materials. Beyond the museum, the historical society sponsors a monthly speaker series covering local and national history topics, holds historic walking tours of Oakmont, and conducts outreach programs for community organizations and residents. The society has dedicated monuments and historical markers around town, including one honoring Civil War training camp Wright and another recognizing employees of Edgewater Steel.
