About Bancroft Ranch House Museum

The Bancroft Ranch House Museum preserves the history of the Spring Valley area in a free museum operated by the Spring Valley Historical Society. Visitors tour the oldest adobe in east San Diego County, a California Historic Landmark and National Historic Landmark built in 1863. The museum is located at a peaceful location off Bancroft Drive where visitors can bring a picnic lunch and experience the quiet setting. The grounds feature chickens scratching across the yard and occasional sightings of a resident bunny. Guided group tours can be arranged by calling the caretaker. The museum opens Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during published hours. The peaceful, hidden location offers a gentle breeze and respite from busy surroundings. Service animals are welcome, though other dogs and alcohol are not permitted on the premises.
