About Carlsbad Historical Society

The Carlsbad Historical Society, established in 1975, preserves and shares the area's history through its museum, archives, and educational programs. Visitors explore furnished period rooms reflecting early settlers' lifestyles and displaying exhibits about Carlsbad and the surrounding agricultural community. The historical gardens feature a nationally registered Rose Garden alongside a Victorian Herb bed, a native Southern Californian bed, a Carlsbad commercial growers bed, and a Patriotic Red, White and Blue bed. Magee Park extends the experience with the Shipley Barn displaying agricultural memorabilia, the Granary relocated from the historic Twin Inns Restaurant, and Heritage Hall, the original St. Patrick's Church that previously served as the city library and police department. The nonprofit offers tours and walking experiences for those interested in local history and heritage.
