About Heritage of the Americas Museum

The Heritage of the Americas Museum in El Cajon occupies a circular building on the campus of Cuyamaca College, offering four distinct museum wings plus tropical and desert garden patios. The Natural History Wing displays meteorites, gems, minerals, and fossils from around the world alongside mounted animals and sea life specimens. The Archaeology Wing houses pre-Columbian artifacts from throughout the Americas, while the Anthropology Wing contains objects from the last two centuries following European arrival. The Fine Art Wing features rotating exhibits highlighting both historical and contemporary art from diverse communities throughout the Americas. A visit progresses as a journey through time, beginning with natural specimens and moving through cultural artifacts and artistic expression. The museum serves visitors of all ages and welcomes families to explore the prehistoric and historic heritage of North, Central, and South America.
