About American Swedish Historical Museum

The American Swedish Historical Museum welcomes visitors to explore the cultural heritage of Scandinavians through twelve distinct exhibition galleries housed in a 1926 building modeled after a seventeenth-century Swedish manor house. During a visit, guests step inside a recreated nineteenth-century farm house, view an art deco lounge setting, and encounter contemporary Swedish design. The galleries cover the New Sweden Colony, women's history, Swedish immigration, scientific innovations, and Swedish craft arts. Educational programs serve families, school children, and adults, while the museum hosts events including fika and piano performances and virtual programs on topics like Carl Linnaeus and modern zoology. Swedish language classes and Swedish cooking classes are available. The Nord Library supports research and genealogy interests. A museum shop offers books about Sweden and related items. Located in Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park in South Philadelphia, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday and is available to rent for private events.
