About Betsy Ross House

The Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood invites visitors to explore the life of an 18th-century woman beyond the legend of sewing America's first flag. Guests tour the historic home and upholstery shop where interpreters dressed as historical figures bring the era to life. The house displays artifacts and documents revealing Betsy Ross's story as a courageous rebel, grieving widow, working mother, business owner and survivor. An audio tour provides curated details about her daring elopement, widowhood and struggle as a single working mother, along with historical research about her role in the Revolutionary War and flag debates. Children can enjoy a separate audio tour featuring 13 History Mysteries set in the 18th century. The house sits steps from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall within Independence National Historical Park.
