About Elfreth's Alley Museum

Elfreth's Alley Museum occupies two historic rowhouses on one of the oldest continuously inhabited residential streets in the United States. Visitors explore #124 and #126, which showcase early American structures built between 1720 and 1836 in Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood. The museum interprets the lives of the artisans and working-class laborers who once inhabited this residential alley dating to 1703. Guided tours lasting 40 minutes traverse the full length of Elfreth's Alley, including Bladen's Court, led by expert guides who explain the neighborhood's history. Alternatively, visitors can explore the museum houses independently during posted hours. An audio tour is also available for self-guided exploration on smartphones. The Elfreth's Alley Association, founded in 1934, operates the museum to preserve and protect the historic district while telling the stories of everyday Philadelphians who shaped American history.
