About Wiess Energy Hall

Wiess Energy Hall is a 30,000-square-foot museum exhibition in Houston exploring the science and technology of energy extraction, production, and future sources. Visitors board a simulated 21st-century offshore drilling rig and stand beneath a massive 12-foot tricone rotary drill bit. The Geovator takes guests through museum floors into the earth and back to the Cretaceous period. Energy City presents a 3D landscape of Houston showing the energy value chain and diverse energy sources. The EFX 3000 ride transports visitors into Texas shale oil and gas drilling country, including a microscopic view of hydraulic micro-fractures. The hall also covers the Unconventional Hydrocarbon Revolution and examines renewable energy including solar and wind, along with emerging technologies like ocean energy, fuel cells, geothermal energy, and fusion power. The exhibition suits visitors interested in how energy powers modern life and technological innovation. Located on Level 4 of the museum in Houston, Texas, the hall traces energy from past to future.
