About Independence Plaza

Independence Plaza at Space Center Houston features the shuttle replica Independence mounted atop NASA 905, the historic shuttle carrier aircraft. Visitors can enter both vehicles and explore exhibits documenting the shuttle era. NASA 905 carried space shuttles 223 times over 42 years and remains the largest intact artifact from the shuttle program. The complex stands 240 tons and rises six stories, visible from the Space Center's entrance. A six-story tower provides access to both the aircraft and shuttle replica. Multiple exhibits inside examine problem-solving concepts, career paths in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and innovations from the shuttle program. The experience suits visitors interested in space exploration history and NASA's contributions to aviation and technology. Independence Plaza is located in Houston, Texas.
