About Travellers Rest Historic House & Museum
Travellers Rest Historic House Museum is Nashville's oldest historic house open to the public. Visitors explore John Overton's 1799 home through guided house tours available throughout the day, along with self-guided tours of the grounds. The museum features two award-winning exhibits: the Battle of Nashville exhibit and the Past Uncovered exhibit, which interprets the home and landscape while covering approximately 1,000 years of Nashville history, from Mississippian period pre-contact settlement through the 19th century. Additional themed ground tours include the Landscape of Enslavement tour. The museum serves more than 12,000 children and adult visitors annually through its education programs, including field trips, homeschool programs, summer camp, scout programs, and group tours.
