The Thornton Historical Society Museum, housed in a building that was originally constructed as St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1904, displays artifacts and objects related to the village's past. Visitors can see Native American artifacts from the area's earliest inhabitants, unique fossils from the Thornton Quarry, and the village's first fire engine. The museum also features original photographs, documents, vintage fire and police memorabilia, and other objects connected to Thornton's history. Founded in 1975 by dedicated volunteers, the museum preserves the story of the village from its origins as a Native American settlement through its development as an industrial center. The collection reflects Thornton's distinctive geology and role in limestone quarrying and early brewing. The museum is located in Thornton, Illinois, and opens to the public on selected Saturdays throughout the year, with other visits available by appointment.
