About Lansing Historical Museum
The Lansing Historical Museum occupies the lower level of the Lansing Public Library and preserves the history of the community through artifacts and exhibits. Visitors explore items collected since the museum's founding in 1976, when a former biology teacher and history teacher decided to document local heritage during the bicentennial celebration. The founders began by collecting nearly 200 artifacts through donations and loans from residents, establishing the foundation of the museum's collection. The Historical Society that operates the museum meets monthly on the fourth Monday, allowing members and interested visitors to engage with the organization. The museum is open Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, with specific hours published on the venue's site. The institution serves local history enthusiasts, genealogy researchers, and anyone interested in understanding Lansing's past through the objects and stories that shaped the community.
