About The Lace Museum

The Lace Museum in Fremont preserves and displays over 10,000 pieces of antique lace alongside thousands of lacemaking tools, a dedicated research library, and archives of lace-related documents and samples. Visitors explore historic and contemporary displays both in person and online, examining works ranging from traditional techniques to modern installations. The museum offers workshops covering bobbin lace, needle lace, and other lacemaking techniques as well as instruction in the history, identification, collection, and preservation of antique lace, delivered on-site, online, or on-demand for beginners through advanced practitioners. An open studio program meets regularly for lace makers of all experience levels to work on projects together. Current exhibitions have featured contemporary Carrickmacross lace and installation art exploring lace as a sculptural medium. The museum is accessible by car or by public transit from the nearby Warm Springs/South Fremont BART Station.
