About Washington Township Museum of Local History

Washington Township Museum of Local History displays artifacts from the Bell Quarry fossil collection unearthed by Boy Paleontologists, including mammoths, saber cats, and horses alongside exhibits on early transportation, school life, and regional agriculture. The museum also hosts free walking tours through spring and summer exploring historic neighborhoods like Alvarado, Irvington, and Niles. The building itself, constructed as Fire Station #4 in 1954, was repurposed as a museum after the fire department relocated. Families with children find the hands-on exhibits and fossil displays engaging. The museum opens Wednesday and Friday afternoons, plus select Saturdays and Sundays each month, as published on its website.
