About Fremont Peak State Park
Fremont Peak State Park sits atop a 3,169-foot peak in Fremont, offering panoramic views of Monterey Bay and the Salinas Valley. Visitors hike trails throughout the park and camp at 25 individual campsites or two large group campsites. The park's main attraction is an astronomical observatory featuring a 30-inch telescope, available for public viewing programs on select evenings. The observatory also hosts solar programs for daytime observation. Day use hours run from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after sunset. Dogs may enter the park but are not permitted on trails. The park is located 11 miles south of San Juan Bautista on San Juan Canyon Road, off Highway 156. A visit suits anyone interested in astronomy, hiking, camping, or scenic valley and coastal views.
