About The Getty
The Getty comprises two art museums in Los Angeles showcasing collections spanning medieval to contemporary periods. At the Getty Center in Brentwood, visitors explore European paintings, sculpture, and photographs amid modern architecture designed by Frank Gehry. The Central Garden, created by artist Robert Irwin, features 500 plant varieties, a cascading waterfall, and an azalea maze that changes with seasons. Additional gardens include the Cactus Garden with desert plants and city views, the Fran and Ray Stark Sculpture Garden displaying works by Isamu Noguchi and Elisabeth Frink, and sculpture terraces featuring pieces by Joan Miró and Alexander Calder. The Getty Villa Museum, located near the coast north of Santa Monica, displays ancient Greek and Roman art in a recreated Roman house. General admission is free at both locations, with tickets sold online. Families can wander gallery spaces, stroll landscaped grounds, and attend free garden tours, making the Getty suitable for visitors of all ages and interests.
