About Griffith Observatory

Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles serves as a gateway to the cosmos, where visitors look through public telescopes, explore sixty exhibits, and watch live presentations in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium. The 290-seat planetarium theater features a Zeiss star projector, digital projection system, and theatrical lighting. Shows such as Signs of Life and Centered in the Universe run approximately thirty-five minutes, presented by live storytellers every sixty to ninety minutes throughout operating hours. Exhibits invite visitors to observe and learn what scientists know about the universe. The Observatory sits on the south side of Mount Hollywood within Griffith Park, offering spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign. Trailheads on Observatory grounds lead to Mount Hollywood, the Greek Theatre area, and Fern Dell. The building and grounds are accessible for all visitors. The facility operates Tuesday through Sunday, with busier periods on weekends, during summer, and at sunset.
