Gallery at REDCAT is a performance and exhibition venue in downtown Los Angeles operated by the California Institute of the Arts. Visitors attend experimental theater productions, film screenings, and visual art presentations in spaces designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. The theater features a flexible stage that transforms into different configurations, from thrust and end stage to completely in the round, accommodating up to 250 seats. Two separate sound systems serve live performance and film and video screenings respectively. The theater's acoustics, designed by Yasuhisa Toyota, can be adjusted for each production. Steel-box-within-a-box construction floating on 72 rubber pads insulates the space from outside noise. Located within the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex, REDCAT opened in 2003 as CalArts' professional venue in the heart of Los Angeles' downtown cultural corridor, serving as a laboratory for visual and performing artists to experiment and redefine disciplinary boundaries.
