About The Colored Girls Museum

The Colored Girls Museum is a memoir museum founded in 2015 that honors the stories, experiences, and history of ordinary Black girls and women of the African diaspora. Visitors explore a collection of artifacts submitted by Colored Girls themselves, each object representing a meaningful aspect of her personal history and experience. The museum is housed in a 140-year-old three-story Victorian Twin home in the historic Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The current exhibition is Act 2, "Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud," a semiquincentennial celebration of the ordinary Colored Girl. The museum functions as a research facility, exhibition space, gathering place, and think tank dedicated to collecting, preserving, and decoding artifacts pertaining to Black girlhood and femmehood. Visitors can arrange private guided tours featuring intimate exploration of memoir-based artifacts with personalized storytelling from a dedicated guide.
