Raynham Hall Museum in Oyster Bay explores three centuries of espionage, trade, and labor through the history of the Townsend family and their colonial home. Visitors tour period rooms furnished with original Townsend pieces and period furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum presents exhibits on the Culper Spy Ring, a secret intelligence network during the American Revolution, including original correspondence between members. Additional exhibits cover the Townsends' role in Revolutionary planning and the lives of 19 African-Americans enslaved by the family, situating slavery within the broader context of Long Island during this era. The museum features a garden, a historic library, and a kitchen house. The site hosts special events including historic spirits tours, maritime history programs, and seasonal celebrations.
