North Shore Historical Museum preserves and interprets the history of Long Island's North Shore. Visitors explore exhibits housed in the historic Justices Court Building in Glen Cove, a landmark on the State and National Register of Historic Places. The current exhibit, The Shot Heard Round the World, explores the region from 1776 to 2026 through artifacts, books with expanded historical text, photographs, and a commemorative flag from Glen Cove's 1976 Bicentennial celebration. The museum presents regular programs and lectures, including talks on reluctant colonists during the Revolutionary War, the forgotten estates of Glen Cove told through rare images and historical accounts, and discussions of Long Island's maritime heritage. Special events include the USA 250 Gala at the historic Braes Mansion, featuring food, festivities, and lectures. A visit involves exploring curated exhibits, attending educational lectures, and participating in special events that illuminate the region's past.
Admission is free. The venue says: “Thanks to a generous gift, admission is currently FREE and open to the public!”
