About Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum

Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum occupies a retired jack-up drilling rig that operated in the Gulf of Mexico from 1969 to 1984 and drilled over 200 wells. Visitors board the refurbished rig and tour it as a self-guided museum featuring videos, information displays, and interactive exhibits exploring the science and history of the oil and gas industry. The tour includes access to the derrick, mud room, pipe deck, and sleeping quarters, offering insight into daily offshore operations. Exhibits cover drilling technology, safety equipment, and the environmental impact of energy production. The full tour typically takes about 1.5 hours. An onsite gift shop operates during museum hours. Children ages 6 and under receive free entry.
