The Michel B. Menard House is Galveston's oldest home, built in 1838 by one of the city's founders. Visitors tour the Greek Revival structure to see period furnishings and decorative arts spanning the first half of the nineteenth century, including federal, empire, regency, Biedermeier, and William IV styles created by American, English, French, and German artisans. Carpets, drapes, and upholstery fabrics are reproductions appropriate to the 1830–1850 era. The house operated as a family residence until 1879, then passed through ownership including Edwin N. Ketchum, Galveston's police chief during the 1900 Storm. After falling into severe disrepair by the early 1990s, it was restored through partnership with the Galveston Historical Foundation. The museum now hosts special events scheduled throughout the year and accommodates private rentals. The attraction is located in Galveston, Texas.
