Moody Mansion is a 28,000-square-foot historic house museum where visitors tour twenty rooms filled with the furnishings and personal effects of the Moody family. The four-story mansion was completed in 1895 and designed by British architect William H. Tyndall. Guests explore how this powerful Texas family built a financial empire based on cotton, banking, ranching, insurance, newspaper publishing, railroading, and hotels. Visitors can choose a self-guided audio tour through the rooms at their own pace or join a guided all-access tour that includes the third floor, servant quarters, and rooftop areas not normally seen by the public. The mansion remained a family home until Hurricane Alicia caused damage in 1983; following restoration, it opened as a museum in 1991. The mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark.
