About No. 1 BFTS Museum

The No. 1 BFTS Museum preserves the story of British pilot training in Terrell during World War II. Visitors explore exhibits covering why the school was established in Texas, the daily lives of cadets far from home, the flight training curriculum, and the Wings Parade ceremony where pilots earned their RAF badges. The collection includes original WWII training aircraft, personal letters and diaries from cadets, uniforms, navigation instruments, and photographs documenting friendships between British servicemen and Terrell residents. A self-guided tour typically takes one to two hours and begins with an introductory video featuring veteran interviews. The museum displays a recreation of cadet living quarters and houses archival materials with firsthand accounts from both British cadets and American instructors. General admission is free. The museum is located on the grounds of Terrell Municipal Airport, approximately thirty miles east of Dallas.
