Opal Lawrence Historical Park in Mesquite preserves a thirteen-acre farmstead listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark. Visitors tour the main Lawrence house, built beginning in 1874 and expanded through the early 1900s, which remains in its original Texas prairie vernacular style with few modifications. The property includes a washhouse, smokehouse, brick-lined root cellar, livestock barn constructed in 1887, mule barn, and intact chicken coops that illustrate domestic farm life on the North Texas plains. Guided tours are offered twice daily Tuesday through Saturday, with tickets sold online. The grounds are open to the public, making the park suitable for families exploring local history, school field trips, or those interested in the evolution of rural architecture and the Lawrence family's role in Mesquite's development since the 1870s.
