Heritage Farmstead Museum operates a working farm where visitors explore early 1900s North Texas agricultural life on a 4-acre site with 15 historic buildings including the 1891 Farrell-Wilson House. Guests encounter livestock such as chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep, turkeys, and Poncho, a Mammoth Jack Donkey. The museum holds over 10,000 objects and archival materials documenting Blackland Prairie heritage. Visitors take self-guided ground tours, purchase optional guided house tours, enjoy wagon rides, and buy chicken scratch to hand-feed free-range chickens. The grounds feature ADA-compliant decomposed granite walkways. Seasonal programs include Little Farmer Friday activities and homeschool days. The museum is in Plano, Texas, with parking available on-site and nearby. Children ages 2 and under receive free admission, saving $5 on the standard entrance fee, according to heritagefarmstead.org.
