About Harriton House

Harriton House in Bryn Mawr is a historic property built in 1704 offering guided tours of the main house, which interpret the lives of its owners including Charles Thomson, a founding father who served as secretary to the Continental Congresses. The 13-acre grounds include a farmyard with a children's play cottage, farm animals including goats, sheep, and chickens that visitors may feed, and a secluded Sunken Garden. The property features an open meadow and the Harriton Preserve with wooded trails. One restored barn serves as an education center; another houses the farm animals. The grounds remain open to the public at no charge from sunrise to sunset for picnicking and quiet recreation. Guided tours of the historic house are available Tuesday through Saturday with advance reservations recommended.
