About Cliveden of the National Trust

Cliveden of the National Trust is a historic house museum where visitors tour the 1767 Georgian mansion built for attorney Benjamin Chew and explore its five-and-a-half-acre wooded property in Philadelphia's Historic Northwest. Guided house tours last an hour and run Thursday through Sunday during published hours, with departures beginning on the hour. The grounds feature exhibitions along the Germantown Avenue and Cliveden Street gates. Programs include Cliveden Conversations, Spotlight Tours, and school group tours by appointment. A free digital guide is available through the Bloomberg Connects app, featuring self-guided tours and videos from the Illuminating Hidden Lives project. The property interprets over 250 years of history, including the 1777 Battle of Germantown and the lives of enslaved and enslaved people in service to the Chew family, addressing themes of American identity, freedom, race and culture. The grounds are wheelchair accessible, with parking available on nearby streets and accessible by regional transit.
