About George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center

George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center, a national historic landmark in Phoenix's Warehouse District, began as the segregated Phoenix Union Colored High School in 1926 and now preserves African American history and culture across Arizona and the American West. Visitors explore virtual exhibits titled "Our School," "Our Story," "Our Roots," and "Our Campus," which document the building's significance as the only high school constructed explicitly for racial segregation in Arizona. The museum fosters creativity and education through curated exhibitions, lectures, events, and special programs that examine Black history and life. Guided tours require advance scheduling, while self-guided visits depend on staff availability. The venue offers ADA-accessible entrances and limited free parking on the gated premises. Admission applies to adults, students with valid identification, and children ages five through seventeen, with free entry for children under five.
