About Constitution Island

Constitution Island is a historic site in the Hudson River near West Point, New York, accessible by tour. Visitors explore the island's layered history through guided experiences of the Warner family home and gardens, redoubt paths, and the location where the Great Chain was anchored in 1778 to protect American Independence during the Revolutionary War. The island also preserves the legacy of the Lenape Indian Tribe, early Dutch settlers, and American Revolutionary War soldiers who inhabited or defended the area. During the 19th century, sisters Anna and Susan Warner taught bible classes to West Point cadets who rowed across the river to reach the island. A virtual tour of the historic Warner home is available online. Visitors arrive at the Cold Spring Metro-North train station parking lot, where a shuttle bus transports them to the island for their scheduled tour. The site offers educational and recreational experiences centered on the island's unique Hudson River location and complex history.
