About Washington Irving's Sunnyside

Washington Irving's Sunnyside is a romantic riverside cottage and estate in Irvington, New York, where visitors tour the home of America's first internationally famous author. Costumed educators lead 50-minute guided tours through the cottage, after which guests explore the grounds at their own pace. The estate features hands-on crafts and dress-up games suited to families with children. Visitors learn how Irving created iconic characters including the Headless Horseman and Rip Van Winkle at this whimsical property along the Hudson River. A special seasonal experience includes shadow puppet short films for all ages. The cottage and its landscape reflect the romantic design Irving himself developed for his much-loved home. Standard admission is available, with discounted rates for seniors, young adults, and children under eighteen, while members and children under three receive free entry.
