Irvington Historical Society educates visitors about the Hudson Valley's past through exhibits and community programs held at the McVickar House on Main Street. The organization explores themes central to the region's Revolutionary War history, including exhibits on tenant farmers of Philipsburg Manor and the stories of Arnold, André, and local militiamen. Visitors encounter detailed presentations about how Irvington's location on the Neutral Ground between English and Colonial forces shaped the village during the war. The society also documents the area's earlier Indigenous inhabitants, the Wecquaesgeek, and traces the landscape's transformation from farmland through the arrival of the Hudson River Rail Road in 1847 to the country estates that defined the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The Historical Society presents in-person and online lectures, exhibits, and community programs designed to engage people of all ages. Located in Irvington, New York, twenty-two miles north of New York City on the Hudson River's eastern shore, the organization serves residents and visitors interested in local history.
Hours: Thursdays and Saturdays, 1 to 4 pm
